HANGAR 3, Sassafras
A sculptural retreat designed for slow living, Sassafras is immersed in greenery and shaped by the raw beauty of the Australian landscape.
Defined by sweeping curves, natural stone, rich timber and hand-finished concrete, the space carries a subtle brutalist character – bold yet warm, refined yet deeply connected to nature. Floor-to-ceiling glazing draws the outdoors in, framing layers of native planting and creating a constant dialogue between architecture and landscape.
At the heart of the Hangar, a king bed rests beneath the soaring arch of the ceiling, with uninterrupted views into the gardens beyond. A freestanding stone bath, bespoke kitchenette and carefully curated interiors invite a slower rhythm – morning coffee in bed, afternoons spent soaking in the bath, and evenings by the fire as the last light moves through the trees.
Outside, lush gardens wrap the cabin in privacy. Native grasses, subtropical foliage and sculptural plantings soften the architecture, while a tranquil water feature and curved microcement seating create spaces to gather, reflect and unwind. Beyond, the hinterland stretches into the distance, offering a landscape that shifts with the seasons and rewards stillness.
Every detail has been considered, not for excess, but for experience. Honest materials, generous space and a deep connection to the land create a retreat that feels distinctly Australian—grounded, luxurious and quietly unforgettable.

At the heart of Temple Hangars sits a generous open-air pavilion designed for long lunches, shared meals and slow evenings around the fire.
Wrapped in hand-finished textured walls, warm hardwood joinery and a soaring timber-lined ceiling, the space feels both grounded and expansive. A fully equipped outdoor kitchen, oversized barbecue and generous preparation areas make gathering effortless, whether it’s a morning coffee or a feast cooked over coals.
Solid timber dining tables overlook rolling green hills and native bushland, with uninterrupted views stretching to the horizon. As the sun drops behind the ranges, the pavilion becomes a place to linger – firewood stacked high beside a sculptural fireplace, the scent of timber smoke in the air and the changing colours of the landscape providing the backdrop.
Thoughtfully designed as a shared space for guests, the pavilion captures the spirit of the Australian countryside: open, relaxed and deeply connected to its surroundings. It’s a place for conversation, celebration and the simple pleasure of watching the day unfold across the valley.

A short stroll from the hangars, The Hinterland Spa offers a quiet place to slow down and reconnect with the landscape.
Set amongst native plantings, weathered bush rock and open green paddocks, the space pairs a cedar hot tub with a striking black sauna, creating a Nordic-inspired wellness experience shaped by the Australian countryside. Warm timber decking extends into the landscape, inviting guests to move between heat, fresh air and expansive views across the valley.
As the sun sinks behind the ridgeline and mist settles into the surrounding bushland, The Hinterland Spa becomes a place for stillness. Soak beneath wide country skies, unwind in the gentle warmth of the sauna, and embrace the restorative rhythm of nature.
Designed as a shared retreat for guests, The Hinterland Spa celebrates the simple luxury of slowing down – warm water, timber, stone and fresh country air, all set against the quiet beauty of the Byron hinterland.
